Getting to Moody Gardens

Moody Gardens is on the west end of Galveston Island. From Crystal Beach, take the Bolivar Ferry (free, about 20 minutes) and then drive across the island. Total travel time is about 40 to 50 minutes depending on ferry wait and traffic on the island.

The Discovery Pyramid focuses on science and nature exhibits that rotate over time. It is smaller and less of a draw than the aquarium and rainforest, but worth a walk-through if you have the combo ticket.

The MG 3D Theater shows nature and science films on a giant screen. Screenings run throughout the day. A ropes course and zip line are available outside for an extra fee. These are better for older kids and adults who want something physical.

Palm Beach and the Lazy River

Palm Beach is Moody Gardens' private beach area on the bay side. White sand (imported), palm trees, a wave pool, a lazy river, and a swim-up bar for adults. It is open seasonally from May through September.
